New Semester...Same Aspirations:)
Hello! My name is Emily (Ms. Witt) and I am so excited to continue my blog this semester! I am an aspiring secondary English educator going into my final year of the program! After I graduate, I intend to go into teaching high school English. My goals boil down to one common theme, I want to connect with young people and positively impact their lives while hopefully promoting literacy along the way!
During my undergraduate, I have had a couple amazing opportunities to spend time in classrooms. I work with younger elementary school students for a program called SPARK as a literacy coach. Through that, I was able to connect myself with a summer camp position through The Boys and Girls Club as an arts and crafts specialist. The image that I included was an art project that one of the "counselors in training" campers made in my art room. She thought of the idea herself and expressed how she wanted to show the growth in her self-confidence at camp. I think this is a great example of something that is inspiring to me as an education student. Students are inspired and feel comfortable to experiment with new ideas! This picture was from a day that particularly sticks out to me as a proud educator!:) I am currently doing fieldwork observation at Riverside University High School in a Pre-AP English classroom with freshmen. My co-op introduced me to a program called Books for Kids, through Next Door Milwaukee. Their program allows educators to pick out 2 books per student every month! I think this is going to be such a cool resource!
